Aside from sponsoring research, Industrial supporters provide advanced tools/equipment and benefit from public recognition of their contributions, early access to new developments, a chance to find new expert employees, as well as a range of networking and marketing opportunities.

This strong support and collaboration also underpins a highly successful specialist MSc course module in Smart Cards, Tokens, Security and Applications. This now well established MSC module has proven a very popular option for many Information Security MSc students and currently over 30 are working on challenging smart card related research projects.

Using a combination of academic and industry expertise, the ISG-SCC is training new experts for the smart card and information security industry, but at the same time facilitating a wide range of research activity.

To complement internal research activities the SCC is supporting ISG involvement in European 6th Framework projects, as well as providing active response to national initiatives.

There are many industry and government initiatives involving smart cards and tokens, making the SCC an obvious resource for third-stream consultancy and specialist training development work. The close integration with the ISG makes a powerful combination allowing complete system solutions to be designed or reviewed.

To encourage funded project work a show-case lab area has been established, allowing the SCC to provide practical demonstrations of capabilities and ideas to key visitors.
